FOIA Request to Washington Secretary Of State Regarding Spring Elections Candidates for Office on February 6, 2025.
As a media organization committed to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at South Sound Times have sent a request under the Washington Public Records Act, §42.56 et seq., for information about the candidates running in the upcoming election.
The request specifically seeks an electronic format list of all candidates, including their first, middle and last names; the office they are running for; the jurisdiction of that office; and their party affiliation. We also requested all contact information for each candidate, including their address, phone number, and email address.
Our mission as a news organization is to gather and report news to the public. Access to public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities, which include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. Given our role in disseminating information, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as a media professional.
