Travis Couture, a public figure active on social media, has recently voiced criticism of Washington state’s tax policies and their impact on residents and businesses through a series of posts.

On April 11, 2026, Couture commented on the actions of Governor Ferguson regarding state taxation: “Gov. Ferguson, when he signed the income tax into law, set forth to create Washington’s new IRS. Hiring almost 230 new tax collectors (a cost to taxpayers of $150m), to go after just .5% of the tax paying population. Thats because Democrats fully intend to move the threshold of”.

Couture continued his commentary on April 12, 2026, sharing a personal account: “Just had a good friend close up his two LLCs in WA, sell everything, and move to a more cost effective state. It’s sad because this is happening all the time now. I hear about it daily. His reasons were primarily costs/taxes, and a better environment to raise their kids.”

On April 14, 2026, Couture posted another message criticizing an unspecified statement: “Quite possibly the dumbest collection of words I’ve read today.”

Washington state’s implementation of an income tax has been a contentious issue for years. The decision by Governor Ferguson to sign such legislation marks a significant shift in fiscal policy for the state. The move includes plans for hiring additional staff for tax collection at substantial taxpayer expense.

In recent years, some business owners have reported relocating or dissolving their companies due to concerns over increased operational costs associated with new taxes and regulations in Washington.
