More than 700 Lewis County elementary school students toured “Safety City” Jan. 23-27 to learn about safety in their school, community and home. The students eagerly asked questions of Lewis County law enforcement officers, firefighters, first responders and employees of the 911 Communications Center.  The kids, from eight Lewis County schools walked through a maze of constructed buildings and viewed video presentations teaching them pedestrian, school bus and railroad safety, and when to call 911.Students, teachers and parents from Adna, Fords Prairie, Oakview, Jefferson Lincoln, Lintott, Washington, Napavine, and Pe Ell elementary schools attended.“It was great to interact with our kids and provide them with safety education to instill memories for a lifetime,” Lewis County Sheriff Rob Snaza said.Safety City, held this year at Ritchie Bros. Auctioneers in Chehalis, is a national program focused on teaching young children the fundamentals of safety. It’s been a regular field trip for kids in Lewis County since 1984.
