Meet Dusty Benedict, a first generation student earning her associate degree in Accounting at Centralia College.
"I went to technical school to get a cosmetology license. I owned a salon and was a hairstylist for 23 years. Believe it or not, 23 years of being a
hairstylist is very hard on your body. I didn't have insurance or a retirement working for myself, so I decided to go to college to earn a degree. This
degree is important to me because I need a job with benefits and a stable income."
What advice does Dusty have for other First Gen students? "Do what you can to earn a degree! Find scholarships, grants, financial aid, worker
retraining, or student loans. Set yourself a goal and stick by it. Strive to be better every day and don't ever give up."
