Meet Heather Beaird, a first generation CC graduate and coordinator of the Student Job Center on campus.
"I am the first person in my family to receive a Bachelor's Degree. I obtained a B.A. in History and Women's Studies from Washington State University Vancouver thanks to the President's Scholarship that I won from Centralia College. I am very proud of having earned both my Associate and Bachelor's degrees while working at Centralia College, and while being a single mother to my teenage son. I truly believe in CC's lifelong learners focus, and enjoy helping other students who may have taken a non-traditional path to college find the resources and the confidence to succeed."
What advice does Heather have for other First Gen students?
"Find your people--advisors, instructors, campus clubs, classmates, etc. Lean on them, ask lots of questions, ask for and accept help when you need it. Find your resources--Blazer Central, Tutoring Center, Writing Center. Spend as much time as you need in those places to get assistance, and to study. Know that you deserve to be here, and it's never too late to get started or to finish. Then, Blaze Your Trail at Centralia College!"
