We're celebrating alumna Emily Washines, MPA ’10, in honor of Women's History Month.
Washines is an enrolled member of the Yakama Nation with Cree and Skokomish lineage, She is a scholar, historian, filmmaker and public speaker. Her film Return of the Wapato documents the Native-led wetlands restoration along Toppenish Creek, and how that led to the unexpected return of the "Indian potato" to the ecosystem.
She founded the Native Friends website which focuses on Native lifestyle, language and culture. She also serves on the board of trustees for Central Washington University.
