City of Shelton issued the following announcement on Sep.9
New Restriction on All Outdoor Burning, Including Barbecues, Effective Immediately
This restriction is on all outdoor burning, with the exception of gas barbecues. We apologize for any confusion.
The City of Shelton, under the guidance of Shelton’s Fire Marshal, is enacting a new restriction, effective immediately, on all outdoor burning, including barbecues of any type. This restriction is based on observing the last 24 hours of high winds and low relative humidity, which resulted in several fires occurring countywide. This forecast is scheduled to continue for the next few days. The fuel moisture content on flash fuels (grasses and small shrubs) is currently less than a sheet of notebook paper. This is a temporary restriction that would be lifted once the red flag warning clears (currently scheduled for midnight Thursday night). This restriction is meant as an act of precaution.
