Lewis County’s unemployment rate rose slightly for the month of July, according to The Daily Chronicle.
For the month of July, 4,116 (11.5%) out of 35,649 people in the county's civilian labor force were unemployed. In June, 3,527 (10.1%) people out of a labor force of 34,920 were unemployed. These numbers show a steep decline from the unemployment rates for May which was 15.7% and for April which was 16.6%. Before the COVID-19 outbreak impacted the economy, the unemployment rate for March was 6.2%.
The unemployment rate for the state of Washington increased slightly to 10.3% for the month of July compared to June’s unemployment rate of 10%.
Meanwhile, the unemployment rate for the nation dropped to 10.2% for the month of July from June’s unemployment rate of 11.1%. These are steady declines from May's unemployment rate of 13.3%. For context, the country's unemployment rate in July 2019 before the pandemic was at 3.7%.
Employees in the food services/drinking industries have been the hardest hit by the pandemic and have filed the most claims, followed by specialty trade contractors, and social assistance.
