Current weather conditions in Thurston County, Washington, have led the County Fire Marshal to announce an outdoor fire ban.
The ban will apply to all lands regulated by the county. Restrictions apply to residential yard burning and land clearing burns of brush, according to a press release from the county. Recreational fires will be allowed at private residences along with official county, state and federal campgrounds provided it is in a fire ring a press release reported. Charcoal, gas and propane barbecues will also be allowed.
The burn ban went into effect July 17 and will end Sept. 30. The County Fire Marshal consulted the County Manager, the Board of County Commissioners, the Thurston County Director of Emergency Services and the Olympic Region Clean Air Agency to determine the fire danger level had risen sufficiently to enact the fire ban the press release reported.
Previous fire bans over the summer have been credited with a decrease in brush fires and property damage, according to the press release.
