Mason County officials recently announced that homelessness programs now have access to the federal CARES Act Emergency solution grant to help families who have been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic and become homeless, according to a press release from the county.

According to a notice of funding document that was recently released by Mason County officials, the goal of the Emergency Solutions Grants (ESG) program is to support families that have lost their homes. The program is designed to quickly help families to become stable in permanent housing after experiencing a housing crisis.

Many families in the area have lost their homes due to the coronavirus crisis. The ESG provides grants by a method to states, metropolitan cities and urban counties to provide support for homelessness prevention and emergency shelters.

Cities and counties may provide ESG funds to projects that assist the families displaced by the coronavirus lockdowns. The program is operated by units of general-purpose local government or private nonprofit organizations.
