Headline: In-Custody Defendant Pronounced Deceased at the Hospital 

Details: On Thursday, May 5th, at approximately 8:36 PM, Corrections Staff were alerted by other defendants of a possible medical emergency in one of the Thurston County Jail’s housing areas. Correctional and on-site medical staff quickly responded and found the defendant unresponsive in his cell. Staff immediately began providing medical aid which included CPR and the administration of Narcan, a medication designed to rapidly reverse opioid overdose. Medics were dispatched and arrived shortly after. The subject was subsequently transported to Providence St. Peter Hospital in Olympia where he later died. The cause of death is undetermined at this time. The Thurston County Coroner and detectives are investigating to determine the cause of death, but nothing suspicious is suspected at this time. 

The subject had been in-custody since May 3rd, 2022 and was being held on multiple felony probable cause charges as well as felony warrants. 

The subject’s name is being withheld until further notification can be made to the next of kin by the appropriate authorities. The Coroner’s Office will provide identification information at a later time.
