Congresswoman Marilyn Strickland has recently taken to social media to share her initiatives and recognitions. Her tweets, posted on May 8 and May 9, highlight legislative efforts, acknowledge influential figures in education, and address challenges faced by women and minorities in STEM fields.

On May 8, Strickland announced the introduction of her MIDWIVES for Servicemembers Act. She stated: “Those that protect and defend our nation deserve access to the care they need. That’s why I’m introducing my MIDWIVES for Servicemembers Act and fighting to expand servicemember childbirth options.” The act aims to improve healthcare options for servicemembers.

The following day, on May 9, Strickland paid tribute during Heritage Month by recognizing Dr. Belinda Louie. In her tweet, she wrote: “This Heritage Month I’m recognizing Dr. Belinda Louie, founding faculty at @uwtacoma’s School of Education.” She highlighted Dr. Louie’s contributions since 1992 in literature and English Language learning at UW Tacoma.

Later that same day, Strickland addressed the issue of inequality in STEM careers for women and minorities. Collaborating with other lawmakers such as Mazie Hirono and Shontel Brown, she tweeted: “Women and minorities in STEM face obstacles and inequality throughout their careers.” Their joint effort focuses on making STEM jobs more accessible to under-represented communities.
