Congresswoman Marilyn Strickland has publicly criticized recent decisions regarding an amendment she proposed, which addressed the naming of military bases after Confederate figures. Through a series of posts on December 9, 2025, Strickland expressed her concerns about actions taken by Speaker Johnson and President Biden.

In her first post at 15:51 UTC, Strickland wrote: “At the last minute @SpeakerJohnson and @POTUS killed my amendment. They choose to honor Confederate traitors who fought for slavery and lost a war, rather than support our servicemembers.”

Later that day at 17:38 UTC, she continued her criticism: “.@POTUS threatened to VETO the NDAA if it included my bipartisan amendment. Key word = bipartisan. Spineless @SpeakerJohnson bent the knee again.”

In a third message posted at 18:04 UTC, Strickland stated: “My statement on Naming Military Bases After Confederate Traitors:”

Marilyn Strickland was elected in 2017 as a Republican to represent North Carolina’s 28th House district, succeeding James Langdon, Jr. Her recent comments come amid ongoing debates in Congress over the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) and whether military installations should continue to bear names honoring Confederate leaders.
